Adobe Product Improvement Program
- What is the Adobe Product Improvement Program?
- The Adobe Product Improvement Program is being introduced as part of Acrobat 9. The program will invite users of Acrobat 9 and Adobe Reader 9 to participate in helping Adobe design future products by providing anonymous information on how they use certain features and functions within the application. Initially, customers will be prompted by an automatic dialog box with the option to opt in (the default is opt out), as well as a link to a web page where they can learn more about the program.
- If customers agree to participate in the program, the data collection process is invisible to the customer and will not affect the user's experience or computer run time. After the user closes out of Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9, the anonymous data (such as operating system, browser type, menu options, buttons selected) is sent to Adobe. By analyzing usage trends among large groups of unidentified users, Adobe will be able to offer future products that are better able to meet customer needs.
- Do other software companies have programs like this?
- Yes, Adobe joins many companies such as Microsoft and Intuit that already use customer feedback programs to enhance their products.
- How is my privacy protected?
- Adobe takes many precautions in protecting the information that is collected and transmitted from potentially harmful access. We collect data only for the specific product(s) listed in the Adobe Product Improvement Program dialog box, and the data is only disclosed according to the terms described in the Adobe Online Privacy Policy. Data collected is stored or processed in the United States or any other country where Adobe or third-party partners operate. This program is not spyware and cannot collect information without your full knowledge or consent. The program takes only those actions described on this page, and only provided you give your permission. Since no personal identifiable information is collected as part of the Adobe Product Improvement Program, the anonymous data will not be meaningful to anyone else besides specific Adobe product teams.
- Will a third party be collecting and analyzing information on behalf of Adobe and possibly using the information for its own purposes?
- No, there will be no third parties accessing data generated by this program.
- Can participants in the Adobe Product Improvement Program stop participating after they have opted in?
- Yes, we have made it simple for users to stop participating. Users can go to the Help menu in Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9 and select "Improvement Program Options." When the dialog box appears, the user can opt not to participate.

Acrobat 3D
- Why did Adobe fold Acrobat 3D Version 8 into Acrobat 9 Pro Extended?
- Over the last two years, Acrobat 3D has been well received in the market, including hundreds of positive reviews and several industry awards, as well as numerous significant wins. During that time, we've also seen the demand for comprehensive PDF related features continue to grow by a broad audience. To that end, Adobe has taken the specific Acrobat 3D Version 8 functionality, enhanced it significantly, and added many features and functions that will appeal to knowledge workers across many industries with Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
- With Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, users in the manufacturing industry will continue to have the most comprehensive product in the Acrobat family — including all of the 3D functionality they expect — along with new and enhanced features.
- What is new and enhanced in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended for professionals in the manufacturing industry?
- Adobe has made significant enhancements and added many new features that will appeal to technical professionals in the manufacturing industry as well as other users across many industries with Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
- Some of the key features in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended for manufacturing technical professionals include:
- Easier conversion of CAD files using PDF templates — Convert designs from major CAD applications to rich, interactive PDF documents by choosing one of many professional templates.
- Saving of measurement markups — With Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, users have more control over measurement markups. Easily move the placement of a measurement after creation and save measurements as a view or a comment.
- Enhanced support for PMI and PMI views — Highlight part models or geometry related to specific PMI data to help communicate manufacturing intent and reduce the need to create or share 2D drawings.
- STL file format export with controlled precision — With the release of Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, Adobe supports output to STL (stereolithography) file format to enable 3D printing for creating rapid prototypes. Users now have access to control options for how to output STL files.
- Extended 3D functionality for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint — A new toolbar automatically becomes enabled once a 3D CAD design is inserted into Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Users can create new views directly within Microsoft Office documents.
- Support for new CAD formats and versions — Convert 3D designs to PDF from the most recent versions of CAD applications, including V5R18, Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0, NX 5, I-DEAS NX 5, SolidWorks 2008, Solid Edge V20 parts and assemblies, Collada, and IFC.
- New 3D Reviewer application — Use new Adobe 3D Reviewer software to merge multiple CAD formats into one assembly; measure and section on precise geometry; compare a revised design to an earlier version; and create exploded views, animations, and balloons. Export your work to a variety of neutral formats, 2D vector/raster files, or save as PDF. This new application replaces the 3D Toolkit.

Standards
- What PDF-based standards does the Acrobat 9 family support?
- Acrobat 9 creates and validates ISO 32000, PDF/A, PDF/X, and PDF/E. (ISO 32000 is the name given to PDF 1.7 after the ISO completed certification of PDF as an open standard. Ratification was completed in under a year, a testament to the need for PDF in the market and the excitement of having an open standard based on PDF.)
- More specifically, Acrobat 9 supports PDF/A-1, PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3, PDF/X-4, PDF/X-4p, PDF/X-5g and PDF/X-5pg, and PDF/E-1. These formats include features developed for specific uses.
- What is PDF/A?
- PDF/A supports the long-term archiving of digital document records. Many organizations have participated in the development of the standard, including the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration and the United States courts. Using Acrobat 9 Pro and Pro Extended, record managers, archivists, and industry compliance professionals can easily preserve and protect important electronic files and information as searchable PDF/A-compliant documents.
- What is PDF/E?
- PDF/E enables the reliable and more secure exchange of engineering and technical documentation for the manufacturing, building, and geospatial industries. Using Acrobat 9, product and project teams can easily produce ISO 24517 (PDF/E) files from a variety of applications, including Autodesk® AutoCAD® and Microsoft Visio, and be assured of reliable printing and viewing of large-format documents as well as the protection of sensitive information.
- What is PDF/X?
- PDF/X facilities the reliable delivery of press-ready, high-end color advertisements. Acrobat 9 extends the existing support of PDF/X to the most current release of the PDF/S ISO standard. With Acrobat 9 Pro or Pro Extended, users can check for PDF/X compliance and embed information in PDF documents, providing a compact method of communicating information about document trouble spots to a service provider.
- What version of the PDF specification does Acrobat 9 support?
- Acrobat 9 supports PDF 1.7, with several Adobe extensions to support the new features in the product.
- Where can I learn more about standards?
